August 7, 2020
After having my son in 2018, I have not been successful with securing the best appointment for many reasons to follow up on the tumors in my liver. Their were many obstacles that blocked my opportunity to continue treatment with Emory Healthcare in 2015. When my insurance began in 2019, I decided to follow-up, but the insurance denied my scans requested by the doctor. They stated that I had a scan within the calendar year, but I didn’t. I appealed it, but they did not respond. I decided to try again on August 4, 2020, I contacted Emory Healthcare around 8:00 a.m to schedule a follow-up on my condition. I was on hold for 20 minutes but was able to speak with a very nice representative who ensured me someone from the Oncology team would call me back because they need to schedule the scans the same day as the appointment with the oncologist so I didn't have to do 2 appointments. I thought that was a great idea considering what happened in 2019. I was upset in 2019 because it wasn’t the insurance company that denied my scans, it was the third-party company that denied the scans. The other issue concerning the insurance was the plan was based on what the company selected, so although we pay around $111 per month with a co-pay of $60 for specialists it has always been financially difficult. We also have a 2,500 deductible and a $5,000 out of pocket expense before the insurance pay at 100%. Who can afford $7,000? By the time this is paid, the next year is rolling around and it is due again. Healthcare is not affordable with certain circumstances. If I would have managed the foods I consumed, understood the principles of being a good steward over my body and my health according to the Almighty God's word, I know I would not be in this situation. Now, I have to face the steps of correcting the problem I ignored through proper leadership, management and wisdom.
As I sat home waiting for Emory Healthcare to contact me back to schedule an appointment, on Friday August 7, 2020 the Holy Spirit dropped the name Cancer Treatment Center of America into my spirit. I had heard of them before, but I ignored them thinking that is not for me. God was trying to show me something new and different for a purpose. I reached out to them because at this point I was coming out of an attack which I thought was gallstone pain. I went to CTCA’s website on my cell phone around 8:00 p.m and a chat box came up stating if I needed help so I starting chatting with someone, and they responded. The person I was chatting with was a Patient Advocate. I began explaining my condition and within 30 minutes the representative transferred my information to a Senior Patient Advocate who immediately called me. I was surprised to hear a pleasant voice who was willing to assist me. He gathered more information and around 9:11 pm, he sent information for me to complete my medical records release form. I immediately completed it and sent it back to him. As he stated he would do, he contacted me early Monday, August 10, 2020, to confirm he received everything and transferred me to a nurse navigator.
Nurse Navigator – August 10, 2020
The Nurse Navigator contacted me on time and explained everything that would happened after today. She explained a little more about the hospital and what to expect. She was very nice and pleasant. When going through problems, it is nice and comforting to hear a pleasant voice that wants to extend the best help. She transferred my information to the scheduler who contacted me the same day to schedule my Day 1 appointment.
Scheduler
We walked through some dates that would work for me, and we scheduled August 13, 2020 for my Day 1 appointment.
Encouragement based on experience
What I loved about our initial connection is the transfer was seamless. No one dropped the ball. They were professional and their customer service was of excellence even during a Pandemic. This is how the Almighty God expects us to steward our business and conversations with people. It births the process of healing and hope. I was led to CTCA by the Holy Spirit
Scripture - 1 John 2:1
"My little children (believers, dear ones), I am writing you these things so that you will not sin and violate God’s law. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate [who will intercede for us] with the Father: Jesus Christ the righteous [the upright, the just One, who conforms to the Father’s will in every way—purpose, thought, and action](AMP)".
